We have set out below the rules which will apply to attendance of WMWG walks with effect from 15 August 2020.
These are based on Ramblers guidance on how to safely run walks in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. The situation is of course quite fluid, and the rules are likely to need updating from time to time in view of changing Ramblers and Government guidance. We will let members know as and when any changes are made - but subject to that they will apply until further notice.
We know that no-one likes rules, but they are needed for everyone's protection and to allow group walks to re-start.
The Walks Programme
We will not be preparing a quarterly programme, given the risk of unexpected changes, possible local lockdowns etc. Instead, we will be publishing a rolling programme on this website, which we will also advertise in the weekly email.
Booking on Walks
Walks will be limited to eleven members (plus the leader).
It is essential that you book in advance for any walk that you want to attend. Priority will be given to Ramblers members. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to just turn up on the day, and anyone who does so will be turned away.
To request to book on, please contact the leader directly, using the email address given in the walk description and confirming your membership number. To make things as simple as possible for the leader, this is the only way to book - so please don't post on social media as a means of confirming attendance.
Given the limited numbers, the leader will accept bookings on a first come, first served basis. However, to try to make it as fair as possible for everyone, we would ask you not to try to book on more than two walks per month.
As we expect more people to contact the leader than there are spaces, you are only booked on when you get a confirmatory message from the leader. Therefore please don't travel to the walk unless you have been told that you are definitely booked on.
On the Walk
Walking is generally a low-risk activity, and leaders will try to make the walk as safe as possible. However, obviously some risk will remain and walk attendees are ultimately responsible for keeping themselves safe. With that in mind, please:-
- make sure you are socially distanced at all times (1 metre plus) – especially at gates, stiles, road crossings etc;
- bring (and use!) hand sanitiser;
- try to avoid using public transport to get to walks and, if you need to use it, make sure you wear a facemask; and
- avoid sharing food or equipment
We look forward to seeing you out on a walk!
